Ahmad Sohiel Tanji

Manila, Philippines
Shoplifters United
Founder / Head Organizer

Shoplifters United began in 2013 as a simple gathering to celebrate founder Ahmad Tanji’s birthday with live music. What began as a casual gathering of bands quickly evolved into a dynamic platform for artists, transforming into a series of musical theme nights and intimate events with a strong focus on indiepop, indie rock, shoegaze, and electronica.

Today, the one-man production hosts intimate songwriting workshops while also managing Manila’s Fête de la Musique: Indie Stage, a role it has proudly held for two consecutive years.

Beyond the events, Ahmad Tanji is also one of the visionaries behind Uragon Night, an annual celebration of Bicol Region’s emerging talents. He also sings and writes for Manila-based indie rock bands We Are Imaginary and Tangerine Party.

CONTACT

COMPANY / EVENT

A local event production outfit that curates bar gigs for indie bands around Metro Manila.

WHAT I DO

  • I look for bands to perform at my shows (e.g. promoter, festival owner/curator, venue, etc.)
  • I help bands get booked for shows (e.g. booking agent, touring agent/manager, etc.)
  • I help promote bands to new audiences (e.g. journalist, PR agent, media, etc.)

I am scouting for talents that are willing to play Manila’s indie bar circuit. On the same way, I want to build a network with festival heads and local organizers who can do the same for our bands.

LOOKING FOR

  • Artist genres
    • Band music e.g. rock, indie-rock, indie-pop, etc.
    • Heavy music e.g. metal, hardcore, punk, etc.
    • Alternative and/or experimental
    • This is more of my personal taste. My preference leans on indie rock, indiepop, and alternative rock. General genres like punk and hardcore may not be my cup of tea but I can refer them to local productions that can promote them to their niche crowd.
