Midi Festival

Beijing, China

The original and best alternative music festival touring China in 2015

Starting in 2000 as a show case event for student bands of Beijing Midi School of Music, it quickly became THE live event for Chinese rock and alternative bands to play live. In 2004, the festival started to be hosted in a public park in China and became the first open air rock festival and role model of more to come in China. Now Midi Festival is held several times a year at different locations such as Beijing, Shanghai, etc. 20,000 – 40,000 audiences are expected for each festival day.

Midi Festival has become the most important institution in Chinese rock, with dozens of thousand visitors each May and/or October in Beijing and Shanghai it is also one of the largest and for sure the oldest open air music festival still ongoing and thriving.

Some sub-brands of Midi Festival have emerged such as “Changjiang Midi” along the Changjiang (Yangtze) River, “Ocean Midi” at the coast and recently “Yoga Midi” in Guiyang. Yet another, “Mini Midi”, has appeared earlier and is dedicated to the electronic music side of the Beijing festival, it isn’t stand alone festival event as such.
