Clarence Yap – Co-Founder & Director, Foundation Music and Umami Sounds

Clarence co-founded Foundation Music (FM) with like-minded music industry veterans to help propel exceptional Singapore talents to the international stage, and develop viable careers for them. FM has been building international audiences for their artists with strategic label partnerships, touring opportunities and collaboration projects. FM merged with sister label Umami Records under the Umami Sounds Group in 2019, to provide artists a full suite of music services.

In his former role as Head of Music Programming at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay till 2015, he helped to define the national arts  centre’s musical heart for 8 years. He worked with his team of Programmers to produce a range of music experiences for different target audiences, from the popular Mosaic Music Festival to vocal festival Voices.

He also started music education collective The Music Circle in 2015 with forward thinking music educators to introduce fresh and inspiring approaches to teaching music. The Music Circle opened its first Learning Centre in June 2018, featuring flexible rooms designed to facilitate communal learning, integrated with performance spaces.
